"I'm thinking about seeing a chiropractor. Oh, but chiropractic isn't covered by health insurance, right?" Wrong! I get this question all the time. When someone is making the decision to choose chiropractic to take care of their health issue, they have to go through several decision processes.
First, will chiropractic help my problem? Typically, they are dealing with pain and aren't getting much help from other methods they've tried to resolve it. They may have tried over-the-counter pain medications, maybe even some stronger versions prescribed by their doctor. They may have bought a brace or support, changed their bed, or just tried to rest for awhile. Nothing's working.
Next they consider the location of the chiropractor. Are they close? Can I get to the office during their office hours? If this all fits, the person will eventually start to realize their is a cost involved and will start considering whether or not their insurance will cover all or at least part of the cost of going to see a chiropractor.
Does insurance cover chiropractic? In most cases, it does. There is not going to be "unlimited treatment for an unlimited time," but there will be some coverage. Most insurance will place two types of limitations on coverage; either they will limit the total dollar amount they will pay, or they will limit the total number of times you can visit the chiropractor in a given year.
Will the amount of insurance coverage be enough for all of your treatment? It really depends on what's wrong. Most health insurance is not set up to handle "wellness care," that is, treatment when you're already feeling pretty good. Health insurance is usually there to help in time of crisis. You have a heart attack, you've been involved in a car accident, or you back is so painful you can't get to work. That's a crisis.
The best way to find out if your insurance covers chiropractic and to find out what limitations are present, is to contact the office you want to go see. Many offices will verify your insurance benefits before you even go into the office. This way, you'll know what you're in for before you set foot in the door. Choosing your chiropractor only by your out-of-pocket expense is not usually the best way to find a doctor (or any service for that matter), but it's helpful to get as much information as possible.
Dr. Philip Cordova is a chiropractor in Houston, Texas. More information about this Houston Chiropractor can be found on his website at http://www.CoreChiropractic.net
You Always Need Good Support for Strong Abs and an Active Life
Support can mean a lot of things. But when we are talking about supporting an active life, we are specifically referring to a strong set of abdominals - the rectus abdominis, the internal and external obliques and the transverse abdominis (and a bunch of other stabilizing and supportive structures), a strong lower back and a strong knowledge of how to properly prepare to pick up a weight. This weight could be your children, a dumbbell or barbell at the gym, a grocery bag, a box or anything else you need to move in a busy day.
As you can see, when it comes to performance or just maintaining a good quality of life, the strength of the muscles that surround and support your torso and back health - is key.
Here are three exercises and their variations that you can quickly and easily incorporate into your training at home or in the gym that will teach you how to brace or "set your core" in preparation for any activity.
Planks
Planks are where you get into a push-up position but instead of on getting set on your outstretched and locked hands, you will setup with your forearms resting on the ground. Your back is rigid, your glutes are tight and your torso is braced. You will hold this position for a set length of time. 30 seconds to 1 minute is good and 2 minutes + is great. There is also a variation where you are braced on your side. You will roll up from the standard plank position to your side, still resting on your forearm which is now perpendicular to your body. Your top foot will be resting on your bottom foot. This variation will target your obliques more specifically.
Overhead Walks
This exercise will have you locking two dumbbells, a barbell or two milk jugs (if you are working out at home) overhead in an outstretched position. Your arms should be next to your head and the implements will be fully locked overhead. Now, you will go for a walk. With each step, you will have to adjust with the sway of the movement. This will force you to brace your torso to remain rigid and unwavering while you are moving. Excellent for anyone as this movement teaches dynamic stabilization. You will also find breathing to be labored and your mental toughness go through the roof.
Try these exercises out to jump start your workout and improve your overall strength. Creativity when you're not at the gym will go a long way in helping you achieve your goals and remain injury free.

Does it hurt to have teeth pulled that are kinda lose?
I have 4 baby teeth loose and I have to lose them to get the rest of my brackets for braces on so then I would have a full set. Right now they are sort of loose if you know what I mean. Like they can wiggle a little but not like u can twist them. My orthodontist wants them out and my dentist offered to give me nova cane and pull them. Will it hurt? I am this very sensitive person when it come to needles and shots and exspecially pulling teeth. Any ways do you need an IV. I will not go through with pulling my teeth if I need an IV. I really need support!
Should I take any pills to calm my nerves and is it true that they cut a slit into the side of your gums and take them out. I am not a sissy wellI'm scared and nervous you can't blame an 11 year old for being worried about getting teeth pulled! I AM ONLY 11! I AM WORRIED SO SORRY IF I SOUND LIKE A SISSY!
I am the biggest sissy when it comes to the dentist and honestly, I would rather have a tooth pulled than drilled-
I hate novacaine and I hate the drill, getting a tooth pulled takes about 30 seconds to a minute- snap of a finger and it's out. You wait longer for the novacaine to kick in than to have to tooth pulled- you don't feel a thing!
