Featured Article:

Are you one of the 90% of golfers who can't stop slicing? If so this article will help you in your efforts to stop slicing.
Having been a slicer myself I know the frustration one faces in trying to get rid of it. The more you try the worse it gets and in many cases people simply give up the game because they believe they can't stop slicing.
A golf slice can be cured but does take a bit of work and practice. It is also vitally important that you practice the correct drills and to do that you need to know what it is you are trying to fix.
I have often heard the following ball flight patterns referred to as a slice:
- A push.
- A push slice and
- A fade.
These all have similar characteristics, in that they end up going right (for right handed players), but they are in fact completely different shots.
- A slice is caused by an out-to-in swing path with an open clubface through impact.
- A push is caused by an in-to-out swing path with an open clubface.
- A push slice is caused by an in-to-in swing path with an open clubface and
- A fade is caused by an out-to-in swing path with an open clubface though impact.
It might be that you are fading, pushing or push slicing the ball?
If it is any of these and you are trying to cure a slice, the result will be something completely different to what you intended and you might land up with a bigger problem.
You need to determine your particular problem which is not difficult to do.
Ask a friend to help you.
You will need a chair, a 1 meter length stick (bamboo is perfect), a pencil and a sheet of paper.
Stick the bamboo in the ground about 5 meters out directly in front of the ball and in line with the target. Now place the chair directly behind your ball so that the ball, the bamboo and the target are all in a straight line.
Get your helper to sit in the chair armed with pencil and paper.
Set up as normal aiming at the target and start hitting golf balls.
Ask your helper to note the following two things:
- Does the ball go left of, right of or straight over the stake?
- Does the ball finish left of, right of or on target?
Do this with at least 20 balls and check what the majority of them do.
If they start left of target line and finish right of target you have a slice.
If they start left and finish on target you have a fade. Congratulations this is not a bad shot to be able to play.
If they start right of target and continue straight right you have a push.
If they start right and finish even further right you have a push slice.
Do not panic - you don't have to take up tennis just yet. Knowing what you are doing wrong is half the battle.
Now that you know what shot you don't want you need to decide what shot you do want. That may sound simplistic but it is true. What would your ideal shot be?
The most difficult shot in golf is a straight shot and I would not recommend that the average golfer aspires to playing this shot. Rather decide on either a draw or a fade, both of which can be controlled and give greater allowance for margin of error. A draw will give greater distance whilst a fade will be shorter but will land softer, both are useful shots.
For a draw you need to have an in-to-out swing path and a square club face through impact.
For a fade you need to have an out-to-in swing path and a square club face through impact.
You also need to have your grip, aim, alignment, stance and posture checked as any of these could be influencing either the swing path or the clubhead through impact.
If you cannot afford a lesson then there are alternatives, books, videos, DVDs and e-books are all great ways to learn how to do things and all include practice drills.
If you really want to get rid of your slice (or any bad shot for that matter) stop saying you can't stop slicing and start doing something about it.
Keep your swing simple and compact and you will find it easier to rid yourself of your slice.
The best advice I have ever come across for a simple compact swing comes from the team over at Pure Point Golf. With a little help and some practice you will soon get rid of your slice.
Head over to Pure Point Golf and take a look at what they can do for you.
Get rid of your slice forever!
Happy golfing!
Tennis Court Lighting Fixtures
Tennis Court Sport Lighting Fixture Sales & Sport Court Photometric Lighting Design Services.
The best tennis court lighting fixtures are forward throw fixtures that feature either precision optics or cut off designs that focus illumination on the court and minimize glare from surrounding viewpoints. Tennis court lighting systems should always be designed with two simultaneous objectives in mind: lighting the court and lighting the ball in play. Optimal illumination depends on striking this balance, and this balance in turn depends upon several other factors as follows:
1. The number of light poles
2. The physical location of lighting poles
3. The type of lighting fixtures attached to poles
4. The number of fixtures per pole
5. The proper number of footcandles
6. The purpose of the court
7. The physical size of the court
When each of these factors is properly balanced against the other, a uniform distribution of the light and non-glare optics can be created. Optimal tennis court lighting should cover the entire court and extend approximately 6' beyond the sidelines and 10' behind the base lines. Metal Halide luminaries are the most common HID source used for tennis court lighting.
Selecting the Right Tennis Court Lights, Poles, and Accessories
Customers can find individual lighting fixtures, supplies, and individual light poles and lamps in our online store. Typically, tennis lighting fixtures come equipped with a 1000 watt, Metal Halide bulb. These sports lights are manufactured for both residential and commercial applications, so customers have the flexibility of installing these devices in a variety of settings. RLLD Commercial tennis court lighting pole sizes come in a variety of heights and can be used with narrow, tournament, and club size tennis court playing fields. For the convenience of both professional designers and certified electricians contracted by homeowners, we have developed tennis court lighting packages that are specifically approved and designed for six standard tennis court layouts.

A few additional points bear further notice. Some of our tennis court lighting kits come with a double lamp pole light fixture. This creates a more evenly spread illumination and a different look compared to the conventional single lamp pole. We also have quad light poles that have four die cast light fixtures for a distinctive appearance. RLLD Commercial Lighting includes all necessary accessories for these lighting kits, include mounting hardware, brackets, and lamps. RLLD Commercial Lighting tennis court light kits can also be used with basketball and volleyball courts, or any other type of athletic or sports lighting area that requires superior lighting for game purposes. We have tennis lights for club or tournament courts, and we also have packages for single and dual playing fields as well. Please reference the following for more information:
Tennis Court Fixture Mounting Methods
In tennis court lighting you can choose between low-mast and high-mast pole configurations. Generally speaking, residential tennis court lighting is better accomplished with low-mast lighting, while high mast lighting is used in areas where higher light levels are required. Low-mast systems used in conjunction with sharp cut-off luminaries produce good uniformity, low glare, reduced amounts of spill light and are relatively easy to maintain.
Country clubs, resorts, five star hotels, and municipal parks can select from over 40 sports lights specifically designed for tennis courts. Call an RLLD Commercial Lighting Specialist now for detailed suggestions on how to use these high-end, durable tennis court lights and accessories. Consultation over the phone is free to clients and serious inquirers, and competitive fee-based consultation is also available for those seeking information only from our expert staff.

Sam Querrey gets in third-round victory at Wimbledon just under the wire
The lanky tennis pro from Santa Monica beats Xavier Malisse of Belgium 9-7 in the fifth set of a match that ends at 9:24 p.m. with darkness encroaching. His next match will be Monday against Britain's favorite son, fourth-seeded Andy Murray. That last forehand Sam Querrey hit, a winner from deep behind the baseline, the one that touched every line, it seemed, came just in time.
