Beach Volley Ball is much different than court volley ball and not just the number of players on the court but the way in which it is played and the different muscles and skills needed to play it. Many folks who are very excellent players on the court have a very rough time of it on the sand.
Playing beach volley ball competitively takes years of practice. Where as some of the fundamentals such as serving, set up and spiking is similar, well really nothing else is. The two-man teams we see in competitive volley ball on Television are superior athletes in many ways.
Most people do not realize the agility needs to play on the sand as opposed to the hardwood courts. The players are slowed down but the ball doesn't. Getting to the ball takes intuition, stamina, strength and ability far beyond what many are use to in court volley ball. And while we are on the subject lets not take anything away from the top tiered teams on the courts, they too are awesome players and rely on teamwork to win.
It is just that beach volley ball is so different and has an additional set of unique challenges to deal with that make it the today's sports topic on Sport Radio. Fashion police pounce on Haas as Serena roams free in catsuit on court
The sanction was a puzzle in light of the black spandex short-short "Catsuits" donned by Serena Williams, the women's top seed. Williams is currently playing in her unconventional getup, which has been compared to an abbreviated diving wetsuit minus the tanks and air hoses.
Part-time fashion student Williams also got away with wearing a replica football kit from Cameroon at the French Open during the World Cup this summer.
Williams said of her unconventional gear: "This is a cat suit, it's made of Lycra costume spiderman and it's supposed to have the illusion of looking a little bit like leather from a distance.
"It sticks to the body, it really sticks to what type of shape you have. If you don't have a decent shape this isn't the best outfit to have."
Her sister Venus set a short-lived example by playing catsuit at the Australian Open two years ago with a scoop-necked halter top which didn't leave much to the imagination and certainly didn't help her tennis with the constant between-point adjustments it required.
By contrast, Haas's coach Red Ayme couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. "I don't think the shirt was a distraction. But I'm a bit confused when you see the fashions on the ladies side. His sleeves sometimes bother him and he zentai bodysuit wanted to try it."
The chaotic, wild-and-crazy American Grand Slam - often considered the unruly cousin of the three more costume spiderman traditional venues in Paris, Melbourne and Wimbledon - nevertheless banned the streamlined Haas attire.

You ought to try out a summer in South Georgia, where the heat waves are tsunamis. If we're lucky, they end by Labor Day. OK. So we just went through a Fourth of July with record comfort.
