You Can Trade Forex 24 Hours a Day

Like a 7-11 store, the forex market is open 24 hours a day. It opens Sunday evening and does not close until late Friday afternoon (EST). Therefore, it is a lot cheaper than traditional stock trading.

High Leverage

Most people do not have hundreds of thousands of US dollars lying around to trade on the forex market. However, with this market, a trader generally only has to put down a small amount to control a much larger value for total contract. This allows the trader to make a lot of profit, while keeping losses to a minimum.

For example, some forex brokers offer a 200:1 leverage. This means that a trader could buy or sell 10 000 dollars of a currency and only need put up a 50 dollar margin as a deposit. If things go right and the trade moves 10 pips in the right direction, the trader has made a $10 profit, which means he's made a 20% profit on his money. How many shares increase 20% in value in a single day, or even an hour?

But, you need to be warned here. A "law " of forex trading is that you WILL make losing trades. In the example above, if the trade went 10 pips in the wrong direction, it will have meant that the trader lost 20% on the trade. How many 20% losses can you make in a row? Not too many. There is a real chance for extreme losses, so be warned!

High Liquidity

There are many stock traders who have purchased shares at a low price, the price went up and they think they've made a profit. However, they haven't made a profit until they actually sell the shares, and when they come to do this, there's no one around interested, and therefore the trader can't sell the shares at the price he wants, so he's stuck. This is referred to as liquidity, and in this example, the market wasn't very liquid. This doesn't happen with forex, because the market is extremely liquid due to the large number of parties around the world involved with it.

Under normal conditions, it is highly unlikely you will not get out of a trade at the price you want, whether you are in profit or making a loss. Getting into or out of a trade is a matter of simply clicking a mouse and saying what price you want to enter or exit the market. The advantage to doing this online is that you can set the level you want to exit the trade because your profit target has been met, and you can set the level you wish to get out if the trade is a losing one. All of this can be done automatically, and because the market is so liquid, it is almost guaranteed. This is all done via the online trading platform the forex brokerage supplies. It makes for allowing traders to sleep at night and not worry about waking up to huge losses!
