A cam walker or walking boot is a device designed to immobilize the foot and ankle when weight bearing. It is often used as a substitute for plaster or fiberglass casts, due to its adjustability and ease of use.
There are hundreds of different cam walkers on the market from dozens of manufacturers. You can choose from high top (just below the knee), low top (just above the ankle) or range of motion walkers (dial hinges on the sides).
The problem with many of these walking boots is that they tend to be bulky, heavy, and with prolonged use, somewhat odorous. Another issue many doctors have with these boots is to be able to fit the patient comfortably and supportively during the post-op or post-injury period.
The Breg Vectra Premium Walker Boots have been designed for maximum comfort and compliance, and their innovative, customizable design promotes optimal healing.
The Dual-convex low-profile rocker bottom allows for a more natural gait. Many walkers utilize a single axis rocker design. Breg designed a wider foot-bed to accommodate bandages without sacrificing comfort. It's lightweight, low-profile design and full-circumferential strapping provide exceptional stability and support.
The hallmark feature of the Vectra Premium series is the use of Breg's Airmesh material in its liners. This unique lycra/nylon material wicks moisture away and is both breathable and lightweight. This material is also a welcome relief for thousands of patients that are allergic to neoprene material.
Another unique feature of this walking boot is the removable heel clip. Many patients cannot tolerate a rigid closed heel post operatively or post injury. Many patients with very thick bandages cannot fit into a standard walker because of this limitation. By removing the counter of the heel, allows better patient compliance and comfort.
Adjustable aluminum uprights allow for customizable and personalized fit. This compares to many rigid molds or plastic uprights with no accommodations.
The Breg Vectra Premium walker comes in a high or low top version. It can accommodate shoes sizes ranging rom 2.5 up to 17. It is important that you consult with your physician before deciding on the purchase of this product.

Bursitis / Students Elbow - How to treat Bursitis
Bursitis / Students Elbow Planning on returning to University? Pain Control has advice on how to avoid injuries that occur whilst studying.
Students Elbow
Students elbow or Elbow Bursitis is a condition caused by constant leaning on the elbow. Elbow Bursitis is given the nickname ‘ Students Elbow’ as the injury is common in students due to the amount of time students spend leaning on the elbow joint whilst reading or writing.
Healthy bursae create a smooth, almost frictionless functional gliding surface making normal movement painless. When bursitis occurs, however, movement relying upon the inflamed bursa becomes difficult and painful. Moreover, movement of tendons and muscles over the inflamed bursa aggravates its inflammation, perpetuating the problem.
Symptoms of Elbow Bursitis include elbow pain during rest or exercise, painful swelling at the back of the elbow and limited mobility in the elbow
Treatment of Elbow Bursitis
- Uninfected Bursitis can be treated with ice compresses, rest, and anti-inflammatory and pain medications.
Possible aspiration of the bursa fluid may be required. This procedure involves removal of the fluid with a needle and syringe under sterile conditions.
Non-infectious bursitis can be treated with a cortisone injection into the swollen bursa. - Infected bursitis requires further evaluation and treatment.
- Septic bursitis requires antibiotic therapy.
Repeated aspiration of the infected fluid is a possibility. - In certain circumstances surgical drainage and removal of the infected bursa sac (bursectomy) may be necessary.
