When you consider famous women tennis players, possibly the most historic might be Billie Jean King, who fought relentlessly for equal money for female tennis players. Not only was King a tennis superstar, possessing outstanding talent on the courts, but she was elemental in rallying support for more prize money for women. She gained publicity and humorous fame for her televised matches against male tennis pro Bobby Riggs. She proved victorious in this 1973 "Battle of the Sexes", thus making her point that women deserved the same prize money as men. Their tournament was viewed by over 50 million people.

Many famous women tennis players have similar backgrounds. Some of their fathers were professional tennis coaches, so they started playing at a very young ages, with some as young as 5. The fruits of their labors resulted in multiple wins in world class tournaments. Some examples of these women include Maria Bueno (Brazil), Tracy Austin (US), Lottie Dod (UK), Mary Pierce (CAN, played for FR), Chris Evert (US), Jennifer Capriati (US), Monica Seles (Hungary/US), and Martina Hingis (Switzerland).

Other women are shining examples of pursuing excellence at an older age. Charlotte Cooper (US) was the oldest player to win at Wimbledon (1908), at age 37. Dorothea Douglass Chambers rose to fame with a seven title win in 1903. After retirement she continued playing doubles until she began coaching.

Women have scored more than point records in tennis. Althea Gibson broke the color barrier in women's tennis, being the first African-American to win a title at Wimbledon. Lottie Dod, nicknamed "Little Wonder", is named in the Guinness Book of World Records as "most versatile female athlete".

Famous women tennis players have long careers. Stefanie Graf was ranked #1 in the Women's Tennis Association for a record of 377 weeks. In 1999, Graf was named the greatest female tennis player of the 20th Century by the panel of Slims Championships. Martina Navratilova reigned as the #1 female tennis player for forty years, 1965-2005.

Sisters Venus and Serena Williams have both achieved #1 status in the world of ladies tennis. In 2000, Venus defeated Serena at Wimbledon. Maria Sharapova exhibited amazing agility and strength in her games and is known for power plays. Anna Kournikova is also known for her career in modeling. Amelie Mauresmo is famous for strong net play and powerful one-handed backhand strokes. She began playing tennis at age 4. In 2004, she made it to the Wimbledon semi-finals, only to lose to Serena Williams.

Other women tennis players of note are Justine Henin-Hardenne and Ana Ivanovic. Henin was World Tennis Association player of the year in 2004 (for 2003), and in 2008 (for 2007). Ivanovic was the top seeded player at the 2008 US Open, and was scheduled to play in the Olympics, but was sidelined due to a thumb injury.

The ruling WTA was formed in Houston TX, in 1973, at the first Virginia Slims tournament, featuring Billie Jean King. Today's tournaments offer millions of dollars in prizes.

Smart Gardeners Plan Before Grow

Just after winter, people dust off their trowels and take out the gloves, getting ready for another flowering season. This year it will be different. You'll have beautiful flowers, a fantastic display of colors and all your neighbors will stop in your front lawn to admire your garden. Does it have to be a dream? In fact, you could start your garden at any time and have a beautiful garden to enjoy all seasons.
The only prerequisite is planning and prep work and you'll have the garden of your dreams. One important step that some people tend to forget is that you have to plan the right garden for you.
Measure out the space you have set up as the garden area and give it a second and third look. a)What is the soil like, what additional fertilizer you need, will it be organic? Which type? Worm castings, seaweed, pet safe? b) Does it get enough sunlight? How is the irrigation system?Do you have to repair any leaks?Check the batteries of the system . It doesn't matter if your area has all the above parameters in the best proportions. Some plants need tough soil, not a lot of light and little water. You just need to be aware and plan of this, in order to pick plants that are suitable to your environment. One tip i highly recommend is to add worms in your garden.Check out with your local supplier if he has deliver-ready cocoons. What ever you will grow with earthworm castings will be as it use to be.
Talk with people at your local garden shop about setting up your dream garden. They can offer suggestions as to how to structure your garden and to put out your plants so you get to enjoy. You want to be able to take care of them easily. Some plants are more easy to grow than others.
It only takes a little bit of preparation work and a little of help from the experts and you'll have the garden you always dreamed of.

why does my prince 03 white look different to the one on the prince site?

OK so i bought a prince 03 white the other day BUT i notice some small differences compared to the pictures on the net.My one came with a black handle whereas it is white on the prince site. So i did some digging on the net and found a picture of the one mine looks like.
http://www.sweatbandtennis.co.uk/shop/largerImagePopUp.asp?id=15390

So ok i thought they made this racquet with a different grip colour. But then i see that the factory string on mine is the prince synthetic gut duraflex whereas on the prince site the string is the prince lightning XX.So either something is dodgy or prince made some minor changes to the racquet handle/string for different countries(im in australia).

Can anyone give me a sigh of relief here?Or have i been racquet scammed?

First, where did you buy the racquet? If it was from a trusted website, it should be fine. If it was from any actual store/pro-shop, there's almost no chance that it's a fake.

Also, you are looking at a UK website. Sometimes, some basic things will change (like grip color) from country to country.

As for the strings, the ones listed on Prince's site are the recommended strings, not the ones that will come with the racquet. In most stores, this racquet would actually come as a frame only. Then you can specify what strings/tension you want on it when you buy it. The duraflex strings might just be the default strings at the store where you bought the racquet.

One last thing: You can be pretty sure you haven't been scammed. The differences you've noticed don't have anything to do with the play of the racquet. And, you bought an O3. Since Prince released the O3's, they have seen less and less fakes appear. The technology in the O3's is too difficult to reproduce.

Blaska's Blog agrees with Shirley Sherrod; time to quit race labeling
With the hearty approval of Mr. Jeremy Midthun, champion name-caller Matt Logan responded this way to the Stately Manor's proposal to abolish our national Census' preoccupation with skin color. "Would it surprise you ... if you were labeled a racist?"
