training my fast twitch muscles for speed?
i want to be able to sprint faster, but im not really sure of the right training technique. I know to do stuff like sprints and agility drills like ladders and stuff but I've heard heard that you must take a break after all of these drills because if you go to hard your slow twitch muscles start to kick in. So im wondering when i do all these drills and short sprints, should i take a break between sets, or just keep going?
you wanna do short quick stuff. i would suggest doing 50 meter bursts from the starting line. accelerate as hard as you can to 50 meters, and than slowly slow down. take as much rest as you need and do it again. do about 10 of them, and as long as you are fully recovering between them you're not going to be doing any "slow twitch" training. and dont worry even if your slow twitch muscles are being trained, it isnt a bad thing. even for sprinting you still need them regardless of popular wisdom. strength training like doing sprints up hills will also really help with what you are trying to accomplish
